Significant names, an exceptional letter

The Letter yod is the smallest of the letters in the Hebrew alphabet, something like a lower case “i”. Yod has the honor of being the first letter of hundreds of significant names in the Bible: Israel ישראל, Judah יהודה, Jerusalem ירושלים, Jesus ישוע and more. Since it is the first letter of the Lord’s name YHWH (יהוה), yod represents the divine core within each of us.

Turn to the power of Ten when you understand the Bible.

Yod also comes from the word “hand”, yad (יד). Why is this important? The secret lies in the number ten. Yod is the tenth letter in the Hebrew alphabet. In Genesis 5, there were ten generations from Adam to Noah. And then God moved His hand to spare Noah and his family from annihilation. Next, there were ten generations from Noah to Abraham, then, once more, God moved His hand to bring Abraham to Canaan. Of course, a pair of hands is made up of eight fingers and two thumbs!

Turn your hand to Hebrew to fully understand the Bible.

We see the hand of God at work in the number ten: ten plagues, ten commandments, ten “I am” statements in the Gospel of John. So, the glory of God is made visible in tens. The foundation for all of this is the meekest of the Hebrew letters: yod. Yod means “hand” as well. Now you can move your hand to discover the true power of Scripture.
