“In the Beginning”

If you open up an authentic Hebrew Bible, you will find that the very first word of the Book of Genesis is בְּרֵאשִׁית beraysheet, meaning “in the beginning” (Gen. 1:1). This is a truly fascinating word because hiding inside of it are several smaller words that convey deep prophecies. Let’s divide this word into three parts: ber-ay-sheet. The word bar (בר) means “son,” the letter aleph (א) signifies אלוהים Elohim (God) and the word שית shayit means a thorny bush (Isa. 10:17). Taken together, this signifies “the son of God is among the thorns” – this could be seen as a prediction of the forthcoming suffering of Jesus Christ which will bring redemption to a broken world.
