What did Jesus call his Disciples?
In the Gospels, Jesus called twelve ordinary men – fishermen, manual laborers, and tax-collectors – to become his inner circle of followers. We know them as the “disciples” but that’s not the full story.
He called these men talmidim. This Hebrew word comes from the root LMD למד meaning “to study”. This means the disciples were above all students. Their entire life was devoted to learning from Jesus. In turn, they didn’t call Him “Messiah” or “Savoir.” Instead, they called him “Rabbi,” which means “my teacher” in Hebrew.
Living each day as a disciple is a core element to Christian spiritual life. In order to be devoted like a disciple, you should always keep learning Scripture actively.
