Three words of Faith

The secret of the Bible’s first words

In times of uncertainty, we turn to the Bible as the source of our faith in God. But did you realize that what you are searching for is found right in the Bible’s first sentence? “In the beginning God created” (Gen. 1:1). These words of faith are the essence of the Bible, but to understand this, you need to set aside your English translated Bible. The first three words of the original Hebrew are: Beresheet Bara Elohim (בְּרֵאשִׁית בָּרָא אֱלֹהִים). Let’s look at each word closely.

Three very special words of faith

Each one of the first three words requires the reader to have faith. Beresheet meaning “in the beginning” asks the reader to believe that before this there really was nothing, in order for this to truly be “the beginning.” Bara means “created” and begins with the same three letters ברא as beresheet, and again asks the reader to believe that something was created from nothing. And of course Elohim is one of the most sacred names of God and was used by Jesus on the cross (Mark 15:34).

Study the Bible as it was originally intended

The Bible’s first three Hebrew words contain the keys to strengthening your faith. When you are able to read the word reysheet you can see that the very same word used in Psalm 111: “The awe of the LORD is the beginning (reysheet) of wisdom.” This is the essence of a life of faith.
